Abstract

Nano-biofertilizers represent a cutting-edge advancement in agricultural science, combining the benefits of nanotechnology and biological fertilizers to enhance crop productivity and sustainability. These innovative fertilizers utilize nanoparticles to deliver beneficial microorganisms and nutrients more efficiently to plants. Biofertilizers with nanoparticles have emerged as a long-lasting, highly versatile, and more economically and environmentally sustainable agricultural tool. The term “nano-biofertilizer” (NBFs) refers to fertilizers that are produced naturally from microorganisms and plants with the benefits of nanotechnology. For example, plant growth-promoting microorganisms (PGPM) have a wide range of uses as nano-biofertilizers due to their antagonistic properties and considerable growth stimulation. Because of their bioactive components, the use of these PGPM nano-biofertilizers frequently offered soil quality improvement and crop protection under biotic and abiotic stress situations. The integration of nanotechnology allows for controlled and targeted delivery, and enhanced bioavailability of essential nutrients, thereby improving nutrient uptake, plant growth, and stress resistance. This review addresses the current challenges of biofertilizers while proposing future research directions to optimize nano-biofertilizer formulations and applications. Overall, nano-biofertilizers offer a promising pathway towards more sustainable and efficient agricultural exercises, potentially significantly enhancing global food security.
