Abstract

Heterosis and combining ability effects were estimated for yield and contributing traits in Line x Tester programme involving five line (IGSP-12, IGSP-14, IGSP-P.C-15, IGSP-16, IGSP-18) and three testers (Sree Rethna, Indira Madhur and Gauri). Among fifteen hybrids, the high sca were recorded in cross combinations namely IGSP-16 x Indira Madhur, IGSP-18 x Indira Madhur and IGSP-16 x Sree Rethna. Among parents IGSP-16, IGSP-12, Sree Rethna and Indira Madhur were found good general combiner. Hence, these parents may be used as one of the parent in sweet potato programme. The gene action studies indicated that there was preponderance of non-additive (dominance) gene action for all the traits under study.
