Abstract

For development of RILs of cross CSR10 x Taraori Basmati F9 and F10 generations were studied and analyzed for genetic variability, heritability, correlation, path coefficient analysis, transgressive segregation and regression analysis for five agronomic and seven grain quality traits for which, 208 RILs of F9 and F10 generations were used. Analysis of variance showed significant variation for all agronomic and grain quality traits because of the large genetic variability in the two parental lines and RILs. Heritability estimates were high for all the agronomic traits except moderate for breadth and thickness of raw grain. Magnitude of correlation coefficient at phenotypic level was higher than inherent associations at genotypic level between different traits in both generations. No association of yield per plant was recorded with grain quality and physiochemical traits, which indicate that yield could be associated with physiochemical and grain quality traits. In both generations 1000 grain weight, effective number of tillers per plant, grain breadth and thickness had positive effect on grain yield per plant. Regression analysis showed higher degree of heritability for agronomic traits (b=1.0). Transgressive segregants were also observed among RILs.
