Abstract

The effect of gamma rays, EMS mutagens and their combination on chilli genotypes Kashi anmol (KA-2) and VR-338 (Kashi Gaurav) were investigated in M1 generation to assess the radio and/or chemo sensitivity of different doses. Seeds were irradiated with different concentration of Gamma rays, EMS and combinations. With an increase in doses of Gamma rays, EMS and their combinations, substantial increase in pollen sterility and ovule sterility was reported. Gamma rays were more effective for germination percentage as compared to EMS and their combination in both varieties. Seedling height reduction was predominantly observed in EMS as compared to gamma rays and their combination.
