Abstract

Total 129 indigenous, exotic and wild germplasm accessions of ramie collected in different phases were screened against anthracnose leaf spot disease. Due to change in climatic conditions this disease occurred in alarming situation causing considerable damage in North eastern parts of India. This is the first report of occurrence of anthracnose leaf spot of ramie caused by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides in India. All genotypes including exotic, indigenous and wild were screened, exhibited considerable variation regarding the degree of resistance against anthracnose leaf spot. Indigenous and wild Boehmeria genotypes showed maximum resistance, which would have very good impact in planning resistance breeding program to manage anthracnose leaf spot disease. On the basis of these findings, 1 exotic, 10 indigenous and 19 wild Boehmeria genotypes identified as highly resistant and may be exploited for the development of anthracnose leaf spot resistant varieties of ramie.
