Prof. Dr. Rama Swamy Nanna was born on 19 th Feb 1956, M.Sc. Botany (1978) and PhD (Genetics and Plant Breeding-1983), Kakatiya University. Joined in Kakatiya University as Assistant Professor in 1984 and became professor in 2006. He published 160 research publications in National and International reputed journals, authored/edited 18 books for Intermediate, Degree, Research students and Competitive exams. His areas of research: Plant Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Plant Tissue Culture and Genetics and Plant Breeding. He has been awarded the Indo-Hungarian Academy of Sciences Fellowship, Hungary- 1983; Indo-Netherlands Cultural Exchange Fellowship-1996-1997, Vrije University, The Netherlands; Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and UNESCO Associate Fellowship- 2002,2004, National Center for Genetic Resources and Biotechnology, EMBRAPA/CENARGEN Brasilia, Brazil; Indo Hungarian Academy of Sciences Fellowship, BRC, Hungary-2008 and established the International Research collaboration with CENARGEN/EMBRAPA, Brazil and Groningen University, The Netherlands. Prof. Rama Swamy, Supervised 23 Ph.D Scholars and 4 M.Phil students on various Modern aspects of Research: Molecular Cloning, Genetic Transformation, Biotic and Abiotic Transgenic Stress Tolerance and Conservation of Endangered Medicinal plants and Forest Tree Species; Isolation of pharmaceutically important biomolecules/Plant Secondary metabolites from different medicinal plants and their screening against human pathogens. Green synthesis of Nano-particles and cost effective capsular polysaccharides production, Completed 09 Major Research Projects Funded by different Agencies like UGC/DBT/AICTE/MOEF/AP-Netherlands. He Delivered Plenary Lectures at International Conferences held at IARI, Gromingen, The Netherlands (1997), St. Louis, USA (2010), Colombo University, Srilanka (2011), John Hopkins University, USA (2012). Prof Nanna delivered as Chief Guest Address/KeyNote Speaker/ Plenary Speaker at various (62) National/International/Conferences/Symposia/Workshops in India.
Prof Rama Swamy served as Convener, Biotechnology Course (1999-2003), Convener DST-FIST Program (2002-2006), Chair Person, Board of Studies in Biotechnology (2004-2006, 2010-2013), Head, Department of Biotechnology (2008-2010), Principal, University College (2011-2016 ), Kakatiya University, and Coordinator, UGC-SAP-DRS-Phase I and II (2009-2014 and 2015-2019). Nominated/Elected National International Academic Bodies like, Fellow of Indian Botanical Society (IBS), Fellow of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Fellow of New York Academy of Sciences, Fellow of Linnaean Society of London, Fellow of International Association of Plant Tissue Culture & Biotechnology etc., Member On Editorial Board and Reviewer for various National and International Journals, organized Workshops for Teachers and also organized Four International Conferences. Prof. Swamy received many Coveted Awards/Honors for his outstanding research career in Plant Biotechnology: Academy of Plant Sciences India Award-2005; Andhra Pradesh Scientist Award-2007; The Excellency Award-2009; State Meritorious Best Teacher Award-2010, Talanted Biotechnologist Award-2011(Srilanka); Talented Scientist Award-2012(USA); UGC Visiting Fellow to Saint Gadge Baba Amravathi university-2012.
