Dr. Rer. Nat. Sarjiya Antonius currently is the Head of Agriculture Microbiology Laboratory, Research Center for Biology, Indonesian Institute of Sciences. He obtained his Ph. D. from the Dept. of Microbiology, Faculty of Biology, Chemistry & Earth Sciences, University of Bayreuth-Bavaria in 2004, Germany under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ortwin Meyer and Master’s degree from Faculty of Biology, Jenderal Soedirman University, Purwokerto, Indonesia. Worked as a Research Fellow at ICRO-UNESCO-JSPS, International Postgraduate University, Dept. of Synthetic of Chemistry and Applied Biological Chemistry, Kyoto, Japan and in the Dept. of Microbiology, University of Bayreuth, Germany under German Academic Exchange (DAAD) scholarship. His expertise are study of the beneficial microorganisms and their development as biofertilizers (PGPR) as well as agrochemical bioremediation agents, microbial degradation of pesticides, soil microbial diversity and soil enzymatic activities, monitoring of environmental pollution, relation of biological and chemical environmental properties with climate change, Isolation, identification and characterization of pesticides degrading microorganisms and its biodegradation pathways, effect of biofertilizer on soil bio-dynamics, optimization of large scale production of beneficial soil microorganism by various media and fermentation conditions, Isolation, purification and biochemical studies of proteins, denitrifier and nitrifier microorganisms, biomass decomposers (Cellulose, lignin, chitin), etc. Also, involved in several international research collaboration projects such as effect of soil pollution on soil biochemical properties, Grant from UNU-GIST, IERC-Korea and Impact of Climate change and land use management on surface water qualities, APN Joint Project (Korea-Indonesia). He was a coordinator of the national priority research project on the use of microorganisms for supporting national food security. Along with his high contribution on PGPR research and development and its application in the farmer communities and agro-industries, he earned Satyalancana Wira Karya award from the Indonesian Government in 2013. He is a consultant for Organic Biofertilizer and Soil Conservation in Indonesia. He participated in International Seminars/Conferences and has published his scientific papers in high impact journals and several book chapters, He is an active member of Indonesian Microbiology Association, Member of Indonesian Biology Association and Asian PGPR Society for Sustainable Agriculture. Recently he was the organizing Chairman for the 5 th Asian PGPR International Conference for Sustainable Agriculture held in Bogor, Indonesia during July 16-19, 2017.
